Made to Measure Suits Sydney

A sharply fitted suit that feels as effortless to wear as your pyjamas. A uniquely hand-designed lapel shape. The vintage character of linen, without the constant creasing, courtesy of our wool and linen blends. Buttons cut from natural pāua shell, or abalone shell dyed in a wide range of colours. These are just a few of the many things that set a Sartorial Bay suit apart.

Founded in 2013, Sartorial Bay is Massimo Guglielmi’s own tailor house, specialising in made to measure suits and menswear. With more than 20 years’ experience dressing thousands of gentlemen in London and Sydney, this Italian tailor arrives at your doorstep in Sydney, at home or at work, with fabric swatches, buttons, trimmings and a very good idea of how you should look.

Italian style, Savile Row backbone

Italian tailoring knows how to loosen the mood, but Savile Row bespoke knows how to hold a line. Massimo’s approach draws on both: the flair and irreverence of his Italian pedigree, influenced by Neapolitan sartorial style, combined with the technical sophistication and precision of fit that come from his Savile Row training, applied here to made to measure.

Massimo was mentored by a Savile Row bespoke tailor and holds a certificate in pattern cutting from the London College of Fashion. He studies your posture, shoulder line and body proportions, using his pattern cutting expertise to establish the adjustments needed for a well balanced fit. That is where a suit stops being good and starts being yours.

The result can be restrained or expressive. A dark business suit with a strong silhouette. A lifestyle blazer in a beautifully textured cloth. A wedding suit in a fabric colour you hadn’t considered until you saw it against your skin and realised you absolutely loved it.

Massimo’s passion for tailoring extends far beyond creating an impeccably fitting suit. He has a particular talent for reading people: their personality, their lifestyle, their proportions and, just as importantly, how they want to feel in their clothes. It’s this understanding that allows him to create garments that don’t simply look good on someone, but look as though they could belong to nobody else.

During your consultation, Massimo takes you through all the possibilities, explains every choice, offers his recommendations and occasionally challenges an idea when he knows there’s something better. Nothing is left uncovered, and you leave not merely satisfied, but mesmerised.

And while a beautiful suit should make an impression, it should also earn its place in your wardrobe. Massimo shows you how each garment can be worn, styled and enjoyed in different ways, so that your suit gives you real value for money and stays relevant long after the occasion it was made for.

The service doesn’t end when the suit is delivered. Massimo stays in touch with his clients, offering ongoing garment care and styling guidance so that your suit stays sharp for years to come.

The finest cloth is only the beginning

Colour catches the eye, but weight, texture and drape do much of the work. Massimo guides you through fine Italian and English cloths, considering the occasion, the climate, your personal style and how you’ll be wearing the garment.

Then come the proportions and finishing details: the lapel, the pockets, the lining, the buttons. Our natural pāua shell buttons have a deep, iridescent shimmer, and our abalone shell buttons are dyed in colours of their own. Small things, until you see them on your jacket.

The range covers business suits, casual and smart casual suits, tuxedos for black tie and white tie formalwear, wedding suits for every kind of wedding, sports jackets and blazers, chinos and trousers, shirts and polos, and safari jackets. Everything is made with Massimo’s creativity and his own take on how a man should dress.

Two-piece suits currently start from A$1,700, depending on fabric choice and garment specifications.

Your wedding suit deserves something extraordinary

There is no suit quite like the one you wear on your wedding day.

It’s an occasion that deserves more than simply choosing a beautiful fabric and hoping everything comes together. After more than 20 years of dressing grooms, Massimo understands just how much thought, care and attention goes into getting it right. His approach considers the entire picture: your personality, your proportions, the wedding theme, the venue and the atmosphere you want to create.

Perhaps you have your heart set on a classic black tie tuxedo. Perhaps something less expected, in a colour or texture you’ve never worn before. Either way, Massimo works with you on the complete ensemble, from the silhouette and cloth to the shirt, accessories and smallest finishing details.

The aim is not simply to make you look like a well-dressed groom. It’s to make you look remarkable, while still looking unmistakably like yourself. And because the suit is made for you rather than just for the day, it can remain a treasured part of your wardrobe for years after the celebrations.

Your personal stylist on your wedding day

Having a beautiful wedding suit made is one thing. Knowing how to wear it properly, and looking your absolute best in it throughout the day, is another.

It’s something Massimo has observed throughout his career. Even the finest suit can lose its impact when the details aren’t quite right: a poorly positioned tie, an awkwardly sitting jacket, the wrong posture in a photograph. Small things, perhaps, but the camera notices. That’s why Sartorial Bay offers a personal wedding day styling service for the groom and groomsmen.

Massimo comes to the wedding to help everyone dress correctly, making sure the jacket, shirt, tie, pocket square, cuffs and finishing details are exactly where they should be. But his involvement goes beyond getting dressed. Throughout the photography sessions, he keeps an eye on how the outfits sit, makes adjustments where needed and guides you on how to stand and pose naturally and confidently in front of the camera.

After all, you don’t spend your everyday life posing for wedding photographs, and looking like a Hollywood actor in front of a camera is a skill. Your photographer is there to take the pictures, not to teach you how to stand. Think of Massimo as the extra pair of expert eyes making sure you look every bit as impressive in your photographs as you did when you first put the suit on.

The result is well dressed gentlemen, confident poses and photographs you’ll be proud to look back on for decades.

The optional wedding day styling service is available by prior arrangement for an additional fee, with timing and travel agreed in advance.

Start with an idea

An occasion. A photograph. A jacket you’ve always liked. You don’t need to know the name of the cloth or the shape of the lapel.

Just tell Massimo what you have in mind, where you’d like to meet, and any deadline or budget you’re working towards. The conversation can start there.
