The story of Massimo Guglielmi, the Italian tailor behind Sartorial Bay.

Born and raised in Rome, the Eternal City, Massimo grew up in a family of artisanal pâtissiers surrounded by art and history. His interest in clothing started as a young child by taking inspiration from his grandfather’s style, an authentic shoemaker with natural flair for dressing up. It was then, at the age of 10 when Massimo used to dress up for Sunday mass with navy blazer, cream chinos and brown loafers. “I remember I felt so good… almost like lifted, as if I put on a special armour”.

Subconsciously, some twenty years later, that inspiration brought Massimo by chance into the world of tailoring. With no experience or formal education Massimo started his tailoring career in 2005 in London working as a traveling tailor.

Gifted with natural flair for sartorial style and knowledge of design acquired while studying architecture at high school, Massimo learned tailoring with natural ease but most of all he developed a strong passion for the whole world of bespoke. Such was his passion that barely a year working in the industry Massimo pursued his dream of opening his own tailor house in London.

Shortly after he landed to the inevitable destination, Savile Row, the Mecca of bespoke tailoring where he was mentored by one of the finest bespoke tailors of the row and eventually ended up working with the most acclaimed bespoke house in the world, Huntsman.

Throughout his career Massimo has dressed thousands of gentlemen of all ages and walks of life (businessmen, politicians, movie stars, sportsmen), mastered his craft by working closely with some of the world’s finest bespoke tailors, collaborated with the finest suiting and shirting manufacturers from Italy, partnered with the world’s finest fabric mills.

Today with Sartorial Bay Massimo sets out to create a unique new style that embraces formal and casual in an organic symbiosis bringing together both Neapolitan and Savile Row tailoring with a touch of creativity.
